Blog T.L.C – Part 2
Posted by: | CommentsOn Blog Consulting we are currently bringing you a series of articles on the big three of blogging musts; time, links, and content. All three are necessary for your blog to be a success. Today we will spend a little time talking about content.
You need to be able to write a steady stream of interesting, informative articles on your site if you want to generate traffic. The articles should be 200 – 400 words long. Whenever possible include a picture or short video of related content.
Oops, that’s a BLT not TLC. You get the idea, however, and I bet now you would really like a BLT, especially if it is late at night. Anyway….
Does that mean that people who can’t write very well won’t have successful blogs? No. There are some other ways to add content. You could hire someone to write articles for you. We offer an article writing service on Blog Consulting for that very reason. You can also get free articles that you can reprint on your site. To utilize one of the reprint services you will usually need to give the writer two or three links which are included in the article. It can be a good trade off if you just can’t keep up with a reasonable article flow.
The problem with using reprints is that it isn’t original content. There is a lot of debate about how Google deals with duplicate content. Some believe that it doesn’t have much of an impact. Others believe that duplicate content will ruin your site. I write my own content. Sometimes I do a rewrite and put it on one of my other sites or I market it to reprint websites so I can get the links back to my site. The one thing you should never do is take other people’s content without giving them credit or links or both.
How Do I Get Traffic to My Blog – Part 4
Posted by: | CommentsWe are continuing our discussion on getting traffic to your blog here on Blog Consulting. We have been talking about writing articles in order to help increase traffic to your site. As you write your articles you need to be thinking about what keywords you would like to highlight on your blog. For instance, the main keywords for this site our “Blog Consulting” and “Blog Consulting Services”. (Both of these keywords show up on page 2 in position 16 for a Google search) I try and add these keywords into the posts I write. (I just did). I also use article titles to help the search engines find the site. I have written a series of articles called “I need help with my blog”. Right now, a Google search for that set of keywords will bring this site up on page 10 in position 100. Over time, this site will be a page 1 return for that site.
What does this mean for you. You need to be thinking about 4 or 5 keywords that you can incorporate in to your articles. You should try and include them 3 or 4 times in an article. They need to written in such a way that they fit in to the flow of the article. For example, to just add blog consulting and blog consulting services in the middle of a sentence would not be appropriate. (Except for the way I just did, which is some sort of brilliant oxy moron). Likewise, writing “I need help with my blog” out of context would also be inappropriate. I think you get the point.
One last pointer, when you are writing an article, you should try and include a link to your site. I usually do this in the opening line of my articles, but it can happen anywhere in the article where it will fit. This in linking is very helpful in your SEO strategy.
I Need Help With my Blog – Part 7
Posted by: | CommentsIn this series of articles on Blog Consulting we have been setting up an example blog called Alternative Energy so you can the the process in action. In our last article we installed a theme to help with the search engine results. All we really have left to do on our blog at this point is add some plugins to get the site as functional as we want it to be and then focus on writing articles. If you have reached this point you may be interested in reading our articles on driving traffic to your site. I think it is premature to start monetizing your site before you start getting a fair amount of traffic. If you put Adsense on your site and people come to your site and don’t click on your ads, it messes us up your percentage and can result in your clicks being discounted. Once your site is generating traffic you can start monetizing.
There are two plugins we recommend that you install at this point. One of them is called WordPress Upgrade. This plugin will make it easy to stay current with new WordPress releases. The other plugin is called WP Backup. You can setup this plugin to email a backup of your site to you every day or every week. You never know when you will need a backup!

You should check out the WordPress plugin repository for additional plugins that you would like to have on your blog. You need to settle in now and develop good writing habits. You should be posting 5 times a week if you can. The minimum would be 3 posts a week. Write original content that people will enjoy reading. Keep on blogging!
